MANOU
A breathtaking view of the rice fields of Diembéring
Its name, its meaning
The Awates of Diembering chose the beautiful word Manou to say ‘rice’ in Kwataï, a grain that is of paramount importance in their lives. The day a young Diola receives the Kadiandou from his father, which will enable him to prepare the land, he begins to become a man. From this hut, you can admire a vast expanse of rice fields.
This landscape changes a lot throughout the year. We hope you will enjoy observing it as much as we do and perhaps be curious to learn more about rice farming as practised by the Diolas.
