Sigui
Between Malian spirituality and homage to Jean Rouch
Its name, its meaning
The Sigui is a cycle of ceremonies practised by the Dogon people of Mali every 60 years, lasting seven years. Ethnographic film-maker Jean Rouch filmed the last Sigui cycle in the 1960s, and his documentaries fascinated us, as did the Dogon country itself.
You will find several Dogon works on our website, and the man typing on a typewriter in the tent is Jean Rouch.
