Our commitments to sustainability
Since we took over the site, we have constantly invested in its preservation :
Our commitment to eco-responsibility has many facets: in addition to planting and creating terraces, investing in a more efficient solar and irrigation systems, favouring the use of geo-concrete when renovating, we have introduced a composting and recycling system for organic waste, banned the use of pesticides and limited the sale of plastic bottles in the restaurant. plastiques.
Akine Dyioni is an ecological niche, which is not easy to maintain. The dunes are vulnerable and require specific and intensive care. We strive to increase the presence of plants like vétivers (Chrysopogon zizanioides) that help preserve the erosion of the dunes.
Our commitments can be summarised as follows. Help us make the site more sustainable for future generations. Your journey has meaning!

Solar energy
Our entire site is powered by solar energy. We have deliberately chosen not to use air conditioning. Natural ventilation, well-designed interior spaces, fans and shade provided by vegetation ensure a cool environment.

Water is life
We use the water from our well carefully, and you can help us by limiting your use of clean towels and sheets (our washing machine uses 43 litres of water per cycle), taking short showers rather than baths.

Less waste, more nature
We avoid single-use plastic and unnecessary packaging as much as possible. Organic waste from our kitchen is composted and reused as natural fertiliser for our garden. We serve water in jugs or glass bottles only, whether it is local Casamance mineral water (pumped from large containers) or filtered water from our well.

From the region, for the region
Our meals are mainly prepared with local produce: fruit, vegetables and fresh fish from the region, cooked with passion by our team. A poultry farmer in Diembéring supplies us with delicious chickens. The tapalapa bread we serve is made by the village baker. We source as much fish and vegetables as possible from local fishermen and market gardeners.

Green mobility
We invite you to explore the surrounding area on foot, or with one of our bikes, kayaks or paddleboards available for hire. Discover mangroves, fields and villages at your own pace, without polluting, and with respect for the local wildlife and inhabitants.

Equal partners
Akine Dyioni is not just a place to relax, it is also a meeting place. Most of our employees are from the village, and we work with local service providers and suppliers. Your stay therefore contributes directly to the local economy. Please feel free to ask us about local projects or ways in which you can get involved.
Our guiding principles
1. Promote ecotourism and sustainable tourism in Basse Casamance following article 3 of the “code of ethics for tourism” (UNWTO) without jeopardizing the economic efficiency of Akine Dyioni.
2. Favour an architecture in harmony with the site, and participate in the preservation and stabilization of the dunes of Kaengha and its surroundings. Preserving the dunes on which Akine Dyioni is built, as well as those around it, by supporting efforts to combat coastal erosion will be a priority of our engagement.
3. Contribute to local income generation, for example by contracting local producers to provide our restaurant with fresh and healthy products or, to the extent possible, by employing people from Diembering and neighboring villages.
4. As an employer, respect the content of the “decent work agenda” developed by the International Labour Organization (ILO).
5. Contribute to sustainable development by supporting relevant projects in the zone. One of the aims is that our guests have the opportunity to meet a “driving force” (a dynamic and motivated person from the local community with good leadership qualities who is able to make a positive impact in the project) and/or direct beneficiaries in their home context. Therefore, we want to develop and offer specific excursions that directly relate to environmental and social issues.
6. We feel obliged to offer our guests an interesting and relaxing holiday. Therefore, we will take the needs and wishes of our guests seriously and continuously question our quality standards to offer the best service possible.
7. We want to offer a way to help our clients disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with themselves and nature. We want to enable our clients to forget, from time to time, the use of a smartphone during the holidays! For this reason, we plan to shut down our internet connection from 10.30 p.m. until 7.00 a.m. Moreover, there will be no television in the rooms and we will create some real “quiet zones” on the site.
